The Five Elements
Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water (五行) are the five energies that everything in Chinese astrology is made of. Your BaZi chart is a unique blend of all five — and how they balance is the whole game.
The Generating Cycle (相生)
Each element feeds the next, like a wheel of seasons: Wood feeds Fire, Fire makes Earth (ash), Earth yields Metal, Metal carries Water, and Water grows Wood again.
The Controlling Cycle (相克)
Each element also keeps another in check, so no single force runs away: Wood parts Earth, Earth dams Water, Water quenches Fire, Fire melts Metal, and Metal cuts Wood.
