Yin & Yang
Yin and Yang (阴阳) are the oldest idea in Chinese thought: every energy has two faces. Yang is the active, outward, expansive, bright half — sun, motion, assertion. Yin is the receptive, inward, still, subtle half — moon, depth, reflection. Neither is better; one is always becoming the other.
Yin, yang and the five elements
In BaZi, each of the five elements comes in a yang and a yin form — which is how five elements become the ten Heavenly Stems. Yang Wood is the towering tree; Yin Wood, the climbing vine. Yang Fire is the sun; Yin Fire, the candle. Same element, opposite expression.
Your polarity is your Day Master's
The yin or yang of your Day Master colours how you move through the world. A yang Day Master tends to act outward — bold, direct, visible. A yin Day Master works inward — adaptable, refined, quietly powerful. It also decides your Ten Gods: the same element relates to you differently depending on whether its polarity matches yours.
